NPBVA Tournament
Guidelines, Ratings,
Formats, Levels and
Programs:
Guidelines:
• For Pro, Open, and AAA tournaments, there must be at least eight (8)
teams with at least eight (8) players having a AAA rating for players to earn
a rating. For AA tournaments, there must be at least eight (8) teams with at
least four (4) players having a AAA and four (4)
players having a AA rating for players to earn a rating. For A tournaments,
there must be at least eight (8) teams with at least four (4) players having
a AA rating and at least four (4) players having an A rating for players to
earn a rating. See ratings chart below. *Pro division will grant top four (4)
teams a AAA rating and double points if the 8 team/
8 rated players requirement is fulfilled. Tournaments that do not meet the
total team requirement or fail to meet the rating requirement will be
downgraded to one rating below the original listing (Example: AAA to AA).
Ratings will then be earned at the adjusted listing. Placement in 4's, 6's,
and Draw events do not affect a players rating.
• Players may play above their current rating. Players may play one
division below their current rating only if playing with someone with a lower
rating. (Example: An A player may play in any event. A
AAA player may play in a AA event with a AA or A player, but can never play
in an A event.) AAA is the highest rating a player may earn. *Players who are
less than 60 days away from losing their AAA ranking may play in a AA event with another AAA player.
• Cash prizes will be awarded only in Pro, Open, and AAA divisions,
using an ALL cash-in ALL cash-out structure. (Example: If $1000 is collected
in entry fees, $1000 will be given out as cash prizes.) Prizes will be
awarded in AA and A events and will have prizes
equal to entry fees. The total number of teams entered will be divided by 4
and the tournament shall pay to that place. (Example: 24 teams divided by 4
equals 6, in this case the tournament would pay down to 6th place, or both
5th place teams.) Third place receives roughly half that of second place and
second place receives roughly half that of first place.
• A players RATING is based on the calendar year and will last 365 days
from the date earned. See chart below for earning a rating. A players rating
will drop one level per year if not renewed. (Example: if Adam earns his AAA
on 4/3/01 and fails to renew his AAA by 4/4/02 his rating will fall to AA.)
*Pro division will grant top four (4) teams a AAA
rating and double points if the 8 team/ 8 rated players requirement is
fulfilled.
• A players RANKING is based on the calendar year (the last 365 days).
Players earn points based on their finishes in beach doubles tournaments. The
players Ranking will be used for the Top 20 on the website as well as a tie
breaker for those teams with the same Seed #.
• A players SEEDING in a tournament is first based on the players rating(AAA, AA, ect.) and then
on the players Seed #. Seed # is an average of a players best 4 finishes,
365. If a player does not have 4 tournaments logged in, 2 points will be
added to the players best finish and used to fill in
each event shy of 4. The seed # is used for all AAA players to allow for
better seeded tournaments. Points will be used to break any ties. Ratings
then points will still be used for AA and A players. A player that earns his
or her AAA rating and has 2200 points will still be rated, ranked, and seeded
higher than a AA player with 7800 points.
